You

Gov

inquired with reference to Your Lordship's Despatch of the

8th. of last January what amount this Government may expect

to receive as the substantial contribution promised by His

Majesty's Government. Your Lordship will no doubt observe

that on page 9 of the Estimates the loss entered against

the item Opium Farm is only $222,500, whereas the correct

figure should be $225,860. This discrepancy is due to the

fact that after the stimates were printed off, I decided

with the unanimous advice of the Executive Council to

accept the 2nd. highest, and not the highest tender for

the Tarn. The difference between these two tenders amounted

to the sum of $2,360 in question. I shall explain the reason

for this decision to Your Lordship in a separate Despatch.

14.

Last year the Estimates were

forwarded to Your Lordship in a Despatch dated the 15th.

41842 of October. This year oxing to the fact that the tenders

for the Opium Farm were not due till the 30th. September,

it has not been possible to despatch the Estimates quite

so early. I shall, therefore, be glad if approval of the

Estimates may be signified to me by telegram.

&B

I have the honour to be, My Lord,

Your Lordship's most obediant,

humble servant,

Mugarz

Governor, &c..
